Strolling through the farmers market at the Promenade on a Saturday, visitors couldn’t miss the pungent aroma of the samples at the Jimmy P’s booth. Salesman David Bockmann served hamburger samples and offered Jimmy P’s original sausages and meats for sale while he praised their quality.

“The booth draws attention to the new Bonita Springs Jimmy P’s Butcher Shop and Café that opened this July,” he told the customers who lined up as he handed out cards and samples.

The butcher shop and café just off the north end of Old 41 on Bernwood Drive is easy to spot after dark when the “Jimmy P’s” sign at the top of the two- story building is brightly shining on passersby on Old 41. Home to a restaurant, butcher shop, internet sales and shipping and catering, Jimmy P’s fills all requests for quality meat.

Open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Jimmy P’s offers customers all-day brunch and lunch at roomy tables, surrounded on three sides by expansive cases with selections of fresh and smoked meats and poultry, frozen specialties and grab-and-go items from the delicatessen. Customers may select items from the meat case and have food prepared to order. They know it’s fresh – a viewing window allows customers to see the butchering and sausage-making processes.

The Butcher Shop and Café sells fresh meats carved by butcher and owner Jimmy Pepper, who has more than four decades experience and is the son of a butcher. Butchering continues to be a family tradition. Following college, his son Jim joined him to open the original butcher shop in Naples 15 years ago.

“As one of the few butcher shops left in the area, butchering is a lost art,” said Pepper. The success of Jimmy P’s Butcher Shop and Deli and Jimmy P’s Charred restaurant at one Naples site and Jimmy P’s Burgers and More at another encouraged the owners to open in Bonita Springs.

Jimmy P’s offers Australian Certified Wagyu Beef, from Wagyu cattle that carry on the tradition of Kobe beef from Japan. Wagyu means “beef of Japan” and has the genetics for marbling. Wagyu beef is traceable and a birth certificate for some cuts may be requested.

Pork products are 100 percent Kurobuta Berkshire, minimally processed and with no artificial ingredients. Meat cases also include USDA prime beef, poultry, exotic and game meats such as elk and venison and a wide variety of seafood. The on-site smokehouse makes it possible for Jimmy P’s to add many of their own homemade items.

See jimmypsbutchershop.com or call 239-221-7428 for holiday orders, cooked or fresh, including sides. Orders may be placed for fresh or smoked turkeys, hams, sausages, prime rib roasts and other meats. Spices and condiments also are available.
