Keeping time includes sparkle at Bigham Jewelers Galleria

If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, Rolex watches may be a man’s. Diamonds, watches and more are well-represented at the spacious Bigham Jewelers Galleria, 2425 Tamiami Trail North, where Kathy Bigham’s childhood dream came true. The entry sparkles like a mammoth diamond. More sparkle is found inside.

As a child, Bigham’s fascination with her favorite teacher’s jewelry inspired her career choice and the two remain close friends. With a business degree from Kent State University, Bigham took her dream from Ohio to Naples and opened her jewelry store in 1995.

“I picked Naples,” she said, “as a growing community with the income to invest in quality jewelry.” With spousal help at home, she followed her passion and found success. Though no longer married, she and her former spouse remain friends who work together. His sister and Bigham’s brother round out two sets of siblings in the family business, from which Kathy Bigham’s mother recently retired.

Naples is the community where Bigham raised her family and invests her reputation and her heart. A philanthropist for women and children, one of Bigham’s most rewarding experiences was the eight years she spent as a trained guardian ad litem, “Giving my time and self — to be there for a child,” she said. Time to mentor a child goes beyond donations.

Locally known for her jewelry expertise and her philanthropy, Bigham is busy, and catching up with her may take help from Ursula M. Pfahl, vice president, business development, whom Bigham praises for sensitivity to community needs.

As business grew, so did the team. “Our designer, Daniel Rivelli, can fabricate any custom design with most work done on-site,” said Bigham. “He can recycle, repurpose and recreate just about anything.” Refreshing dated jewelry for modern appeal is a specialty.

Hector Otero is the trained Rolex watch technician, using only authentic Rolex parts so collectors know their gently preowned Rolex watches are refurbished to warranty status and new standards. “My brother, Dan Kelly, has been an amazing Rolex salesman from the beginning,” said Bigham.

Graduate gemologist Jacob Tuchman hand-selects diamonds from multiple sources. His finds often create “shock and awe” for the customer. “Some people don’t know there are blue or green diamonds,” said Bigham. Pink is popular. The newly popular moval cut combines marquee and oval qualities for elongated brilliance and visual impact.

Bigham’s top designer jewelry pleases the brand connoisseur and collector, and unique pieces are available for the person who prefers one of a kind. Bonnie Bigham is a David Yurman specialist.

The customer who visits Bigham’s also finds pearls, an estate jewelry department and full-service watch and jewelry repair. A family member is usually on-site. See bighamjewelers.com or call 239-434-2800.
