Laura Carr: Why I’m running for City Council District 3

Laura Carr Candidate, District 3 Laura Carr Candidate, District 3 My family and I have lived in Bonita Springs for over 20 years now. My son, Nick Carr, was raised here. I am running because I love everything Bonita has to offer and I want to continue to make it a better place for all of us to live and prosper. I have never run for public office before and I am a staunch believer in limited government. Moreover, I truly believe that all levels of government should work for the people, be transparent and be receptive to the citizens and their ideas.

I want Bonita to be more business and investment friendly, environmentally sound and remain a wonderful place to raise a family. Bonita must be not only an attractive place to live but also a place to shop, dine, and visit.

In my life I have been a college professor, an editor at a publishing company, an author as well as a mother, a wife and a grandmother. My husband, Arnold Haake, is very supportive of my decision to run for City Council. He is a Vietnam veteran and a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. My husband also founded and ran a community bank here in SWFL.

My son Nick currently lives in Washington DC and works in Congressman Rooney’s office. I have three step children: Karsten, a Lt.Col in the US Army who is back in Texas after his fourth Middle East tour; Rebekka, a mom who runs an engineering and carpentry business with her husband in Germany; and Martin a petroleum engineer and geologist with a major oil company in Austria; plus of course eight gorgeous and well traveled grandchildren. I am so thankful for my family and the support they have provided me in this run for City Council.

Currently I am involved in local charities, my home owner association and in the management and sale of SWFL real estate.

Finally I ask for your vote for City Council District 3 on March 20th, 2018. We must keep Bonita a small town with charm but one with a big bright future. Please visit my website at www.votelauracarr.com to learn more about me and my platform.
